Substitute Teacher - City Shul School

We are looking for substitute teachers for our after school program. School meets Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 PM at the Miles Nadal JCC. Substitute teachers will be contacted on an as-needed basis. Please see below for more job requirements:

 

Compensation

 $50 per teaching hour (2 hours per class) ; if you are required to provide a lesson plan, you will be paid an additional $50.

 

 Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

  • Attend school on Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 PM when a class requires coverage.  Note: vacancies can arise last minute; we will endeavour to provide as much notice as possible when offering supply teachers a class.
  • Manage a classroom of 10–20 students with intention and care.
  • Send Director of Jewish learning a summary of what happened in class, including classroom highlights and photos.
  • Adhere to the community’s photo consent policy.
  • Follow all allergy protocols and ensure allergy-related information is respected in class activities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Jewish Learning and Rabbi as appropriate.
  • Grade dependant: implement a Hebrew lesson plan using provided workbooks

 

Required qualifications & skills

  • Previous experience in formal or informal Jewish education (e.g., teaching, youth group leadership, camp roles, etc.).
  • Ability to engage and support a range of learners in an inclusive classroom environment.
  • Familiarity with Reform Jewish practices and values.
  • Ability to read Hebrew characters: Hebrew fluency is an asset but not required.
  • Comfortable using email and basic tech tools for communication and lesson sharing.
  • Two references.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (can be submitted after hiring).
