Music/Service Menschim: Ongoing throughout the year
Shira Harmony Group - Love to sing together? Rehearse and perform new arrangements of great Jewish music for our services. A short audition is required.
Music (Other) - Do you have a great idea for how you can take our music to the next level with your singing or instrumentation? A short audition is required.
D’var Torah Deliverers - Get into a Torah portion and share the learnings that you find – and don’t worry, the Rabbi is there to help you.
Gabbai Team - If you want to get close to the bimah and help services run smoothly by guiding people through their Torah honours with precision and joy, this is the team for you. Training provided.
Torah Readers - All post B'Mitzvah Jewish adults are encouraged to read from the Torah. And if you don't remember how, we'll teach you.
Haftarah Readers - Sort of like Torah Readers, level two. Don't worry, candy won't be thrown at the end.
Ushers, Greeters, and Shul Buddies - It’s not Shabbat without a beautifully arranged room, an organized bimah, and a smooth and welcoming front of the house. Help make it happen. Or help someone new get comfortable with our service. Training provided.
Service Leaders - Are you comfortable leading a crowd? If you’ve seen congregants leading services when the Rabbi is away, and thought, that looks like fun, it is! Training provided.
Haymishe Helping - Learning/Teaching: Once in a while
Baby Blanket Brigade - What more do we have to say? Come and knit!
Host Meals - We’d love to do more matching of people for Shabbat dinners and other events. That said, you don’t have to wait for our say-so to host new friends!
Kitchen Kiddush - We get together occasionally to cook or bake delicious delights for our community’s famous kiddush lunches.
Mitzvah Group - It’s a mitzvah! Whether you’re helping a member celebrate their new home or helping them mourn a loss, you’re doing good and you’re doing Jewish.
Mitzvah Soup Group - Come meet and make soup for mitzvah visits. A subgroup of The Mitzvah Group.
Tikkun Olam Envisioning - We inspire our members to fix the world, and we want to improve tikkun olam at City Shul.
Visit The Sick - We’ll get you in touch with The Mitzvah Group.
Teach - You’ve got something Jewish or Jewish-related you want to teach? Think text, Israel, music, food, culture – check this box and we’ll get in touch.
Jewish Rituals: As needed
Shiva Leaders Group - Please consider taking on leading mourners and their families in prayer with compassion and dignity. Reliability and emotional intelligence are a must. Training provided.
Shiva Minyan - Be a comforting presence when a City Shul member has a loss. We will train you in how to lead a shiva minyan, or just volunteer to go and be a "minyanaire" for our community. Contact our Volunteer Shiva Minyan coordinator Daniel Gruner .
