CiTY (NFTY-NEL) & Chai School

City Shul offers the first downtown Reform youth group - CiTY, affiliated with NFTY (National Federation of Temple Youth). The youth group gives City Shul teens a chance to socialize in a Jewish context, do volunteer projects, participate in local, regional, national and even international teen retreats, and have fun while forming their own unique Jewish identities. The teens will, together with the youth group advisor, decide on and help run their own programmes on topics and with activities that they are most interested in and excited about. They will be gaining leadership skills as much as making new friends and having lots of fun.

We begin with a junior youth group for grades 7 and up.

We also encourage kids from grade 8 and up to continue their Jewish education through our Chai School. Meeting with the Rabbi, our NFTY advisor and specially selected teachers, and our UJA shinshinim, Chai Schoolers spend the year engaged with relevant and teen-focused Jewish learning, field trips, and experiences.

Past JYG Events

Our JYG has a strong foundation of our post-B'nei Mitzvah students who enjoyed a number of events throughout the year. We started our events off with a movie night where we learned about Havdalah and enjoyed the 80s classic "The Goonies" while devouring some pizza!

Our JYG organized and ran our Purim carnival which was enjoyed by all! Our teens had the opportunity to plan booths including "Pin the Hat on Haman," and a Hamantaschen eating contest. This was a great way for our JYG to show their leadership in the greater City Shul community!

Our view from the 500-level of the SkyDome when the JYG went to the Blue Jays game during their 11 game win streak!
